Dear friends,

As I begin to write this letter, ICAHD activists in Jerusalem are mobilizing to go to the Mount of Olives and begin rebuilding one of the six homes that were demolished this week.

This fast response is made possible by our SMS alert system which reaches hundreds of committed Israelis who often drop what they are doing at a moment's notice to go and resist the demolition of Palestinian homes.

Rebuilding these homes is part of ICAHD's 'Constructing Peace Campaign' which plans to rebuild every house that is demolished during the next year. Jewish donors who, as Jews, do not want to be complicit in Israel’s policy of demolishing Palestinian homes, have provided funds for building materials and to employ Palestinian tradesmen for the campaign – ICAHD’s response to 40 years of Occupation.

Despite our success in raising funds for rebuilding, we are limited in our ability to fund other crucial activities such as the publication of informational materials, developing traveling exhibits and upgrading our office infrastructure. We are generously supported by the European Union, foundations and faith-based groups, but those funds are earmarked for specific projects.

An organization like ICAHD, which must respond to urgent political developments, cannot limit its activities solely to what is contained in 2-3 year project budgets. Much of our immediate campaign work thus falls between the cracks of organizational funding.

Your help could go a long way in alleviating our ongoing financial needs by providing us with non-earmarked “core” funding – funding intended to strengthen our most immediate office and programming needs that are not met by other forms of support.
