October 2007

The 18,000 Homes Campaign was launched in September to educate an often complacent public about the horrors of home demolitions in the Occupied Territories. The Campaign is rooted in ICAHD's new web page and is achieving remarkable results. An innovative animated banner was designed and is being distributed to web sites and blogs around the globe. Thus far over 80 sites have added the banner and new visitors are streaming to the ICAHD web site to learn about home demolitions and the ongoing dispossession of Palestinian lands. Please consider adding the banner to your site.

Demolition Update
So far this year there have been 64 home demolitions in East Jerusalem alone. In 2006 there were a total of 99 demolitions in East Jerusalem.

During the month of Ramadan and the Jewish Holidays the Municipality of Jerusalem issued dozens of new demolition orders. ICAHD expects a surge of demolitions during the next month.

During 2006 there were a total of 319 demolitions in the Occupied Territories.

Highlights include two radio appearances, plus the Boston Sabeel conference, where Dr. Halper will share a platform with Archbishop Desmond Tutu, PLO advisor Diana Buttu, and UN international human rights expert John Dugard. Dr. Halper will also be touring in Europe in November and december. See Jeff Halper's schedule for details of an engagement near you.

Autumn Study Tour of Israel/Palestine
In order to strengthen the voice of the international community, Experience Travel Tours (UK) has partnered with ICAHD to encourage people to visit Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories and be an eye-witness to the situation. No amount of reading, attending lectures or watching films can convey an accurate understanding of the “facts on the ground” which are crucial to any program of advocacy. Our study tours bring visitors into interaction with local individuals and organizations representing a broad set of opinions - yet focused on the forces of peace in both Palestinian and Israeli societies. Constructing Peace Campaign
rebuild in homeDuring September/October the Campaign has built another five homes in East Jerusalem and the West Bank. Tents are also being purchased for the Bedouin villagers of  Twail Abu Jarwal in Israel's Southern Negev Desert. Their village was recently destroyed for the 10th time. Over sixty-five homes have now been rebuilt by the campaign since May 2007. See ICAHD's recent report on the Constructing Peace Campaign
