Crowdfunder, Cop26, Webinar Transcription Getting books written in Hebrew by anti-colonial Israeli writers but translated into Arabic is crucial for building the kind of political solidarity and joint struggle necessary for the creation of a single democracy in historic Palestine, just as translating books by Palestinian and Arab writers is essential if Israelis are to grasp Palestinians needs for freedom and a new society. Jeff Halper’s Decolonizing Israel, Liberating Palestine was written in conjunction with the One Democratic State Campaign (ODSC), a Palestine-led initiative to free Palestinians from Zionist/Israeli colonization and occupation while also offering equal rights to Israeli Jews in a shared democracy. Sharing such texts, analyses and political programs is key to building the foundations for a joint Palestinian/Israeli struggle for liberation. Please donate now on the Crowdfunding site - https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/icahduk. During this webinar we will hear from our colleagues as we learn more about climate apartheid in Palestine. The Jewish National Fund’s greenwashing will be exposed. It presents itself as an environment organization carrying out forestation activities however it is at the heart of Israel’s ethnic cleansing of historic Palestine. Also discover how you can play a part to support the Palestine bloc at COP26. Hear from: Manal Shqair, campaigns coordinator for Stop the Wall and international outreach coordinator of the Palestine Land Defences Coalition. Dr Eurig Scandrett, lecturer in Sociology and coordinator of postgraduate programmes in Social Justice at Queen Margaret University, Scotland. He is the former head of community action at Friends of the Earth, Scotland, Chair of Scottish PSC, and he is on the steering committee of Stop the JNF. For more information and to register for the webinar on Wednesday, 20^th October 5 – 6.15pm UK, clickhere . Although the UN has invited the JNF to be present at COP26, it must know the opposition to this decision. Sign the petition to keep the JNF out of COP26. ICAHD UK will be present at the demonstrations on 6^th November. To march with us in Glasgow, please give your name to Sharen Green (sharen_eappi@msn.com ) and for London, please submit your name to Malcolm Wright (info@icahduk.org). You will then be contacted regarding the place to meet. Demonstrations will be held in other cities and those locations are listed here . 1. What was your path out of Zionism? 2. One of the arguments against the one-state solution is that Israelis will never agree. Is there any way to move them towards a just peace? 3. Where do we go politically from here? What is your strategy? We learned how few Israelis really understand the reality of Palestinian life under colonization and to break away from Zionism, this process usually begins when Israelis are outside of the country, even for a short period, because it allows them to encounter another perspective and have engagements with Palestinians not usually afforded on the ground. Fears hold Israelis back from imagining one state and therefore Palestinians must provide a clear understanding of how they visualise the relationship between the indigenous people of Palestine and the settler community. The language of a “joint struggle” needs to be adopted because Israeli Jews are stakeholders. There’s not going to be a political solution of any kind that leaves out Israeli Jews, just as the whites and the Asians could not have been left out of the South African decolonisation process. Livnat Konopny Decleve is an Israeli PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Tel Aviv University, Israel Ilan Pappe is an Israeli historian, author, director of the European Centre of Palestine Studies, University of Exeter, UK Jeff Halper is an Israeli anthropologist, author, director of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions Read the full report here . JCB has not heeded advice following news that it is included on the UN’s Human Rights Office list of 112 companies involved in business activities in settlements in the Occupied Palestine Territory which violate human rights. JCB knows that the UK National Contact Point (a government body which is part of the Department for International Trade) continues to investigate it for violations of business guidelines identified by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) concerning its machinery that is used in the illegal demolitions and settlement construction, yet it persists in its sales to Comasco, its Israeli agent. Despite JCB’s size and world standing, we are not relenting as we push JCB to stop its sales to Comasco. The same is true for our campaign to get the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) to sever its tie with JCB because it continues to accept donations from it that we classify as “tarnished” money. The NSPCC states that every child matters, but clearly not when it comes to Palestinian children. Please lend your support to these campaigns. Background material and sample letters can be found in the campaign section of the ICAHD website. When writing you might like to include reference to this video that shows JCB bulldozers at work in a demolition in the South Hebron Hills during August. - Do let us know if you receive any response. The campaign follows an open letter signed by more than 500 Amazon and Google employees calling on the tech giants to cancel Project Nimbus, which they said "allows for further surveillance of and unlawful data collection on Palestinians, and facilitates expansion of Israel's illegal settlements on Palestinian land”. Project Nimbus is a $1.2 billion contract to provide cloud services for the Israeli military and government. This technology allows for further surveillance of and unlawful data collection of Palestinians. It will also facilitate expansion of Israel’s illegal settlements. In Jeff Halper’s book War Against the People: Israel, the Palestinians, and Global Pacification, he describes such practices as he provides disturbing insight into the new phenomenon of the 'securocratic' war in the modern policed world, with a focus on the Israeli state. Critical political texts, particularly on an issue like Palestinian liberation, are seldom available to the public, even to grassroots activists. Among the Palestinian and wider Arab public, where relatively few critical books are translated from English and other languages, access to cutting-edge political analysis is even more restricted. Donations of £50 will receive a free copy of Decolonizing Israel, Liberating Palestine Register for the next ICAHD UK Webinar Wed 20 October 5.00-6.15pm (UK time) On the run-up to COP26, we turn our attention to the fact that struggles for political, social, racial, economic, and environmental justice are intertwined and connecting these struggles is a necessary precondition for a sustainable world. ICAHD has always sought to achieve it in Palestine/Israel so that all those residing there can enjoy equality that includes a just sharing of resources compared to today’s reality with growing disparity between people groups. Read the Transcript from Dissident Israelis: Breaking Away from Zionism A large audience attended the September webinar to hear dissident Israelis who are part of the One Democratic State Campaign address three questions that was then followed by wider discussion. The questions asked were: The recording and transcript may be found on this page September's Demolition and Displacement Report During September, there were few demolitions largely due to it being a month of Jewish holidays thus Israeli authorities were not so active. However, there are two issues to note. The unrecognized Bedouin community of Al-Araqib, located in the Naqab (Negev Desert), was demolished twice during September. Secondly, settler violence meted against Palestinians in rural communities was unusually high. So far in October, there has been a surge of demolitions by Israeli authorities and yet more Palestinians have been forced to demolish their homes. More details next month. Following news as it happens on our social media platforms. Keep Writing to JCB and the NSPCC Over the last eighteen months, ICAHD UK and its members have written to the Bamford family, owners of JCB, concerning the use of its equipment in the demolition of Palestinian homes and structures vital for living. However, this British company that has gained international acclaim for the quality of its products and with revenue over £4 billion in 2019, has failed to respond to us thus demonstrating lack of care for how its machines destroy Palestinian lives. ICAHD adds its support of No Tech for Apartheid Sign the Petition The ICAHD family stands with the courageous workers at Google and Amazon who have called on their employers to stop enabling the Israeli government's oppression of Palestinian families. ICAHD is listed amongst the 60 organisations that have endorsed this action in the newly launched No Tech for Apartheid campaign.
