As valued members, we wanted to give you more of an insight into what we have planned for next weekend, as you are so crucial in making all of our work possible. We expect you all would have just received our latest public newsletter, which gave a much broader update of our current news and what our focus has been over the last few months. This was sent over the last weekend, but if for some reason you did not receive this, please contact us , and we can ensure you are on our general list and are updated with our regular news feed. We hope you, like us, are looking forward to seeing old friends, meeting new faces, evaluating our progress through 2014 and strategising for our year ahead. - Some of our patrons who joined us for 2014's members' dinner Members' Dinner We always bring special guests and patrons to these dinners, and of course this occasion is no exception. We are delighted that both Jeff Halper and Khalil Al-Amour will be joining us, and during the evening they will address us as you will see below. At 7pm: Our two-course dinner will be served, which will include a glass of wine for those who'd like one, and will finish with coffee or tea with petit-four. Director Linda Ramsden will be interviewing Khalil Al-Amour, to hear the more personal side to his story that won't get covered in the conference the following day. You will hear about his family, and what it's like living in Al-Sira, how he came to do the crucial work that he now does with Adalah and others. Longstanding member Sue Ball will present an overview of ICAHD UK activism, and how this is fuelled by participation in the study tours. She has been looking at the breadth of impact on professional bodies, the arts, the health sector, education, as well as churches, peace groups, and more. Discover how members have been using their experience and knowledge within their professions and communities and in leading other organisations that advocate and campaign on the Palestinian issue. Tim and Mayonne Coldicott will inform us of their many opportunities to give presentations to schools and colleges, reaching out into their community based on what they've learned during their participation in ICAHD study tours. Finally, this will be followed by a Q & A session to draw our speakers out and learn more. There will also be an update on some of our other initiatives within Europe. The evening will finish by 9.30pm, but there is the chance to stay in the bar for those that wish to continue their conversations! This will then be followed by a presentation from our Director, Linda Ramsden, who will highlight ETT's unique and life-changing Study Tour's which have had such a strong impact on our membership community over the years. For our Afternoon sessions we will split into two groups, and you will get to choose which topic you wish to learn more about in a workshop capacity, brainstorming practical ideas and planning next steps of action: 1. Campaigning on the Bedouins in the Negev – will be with Khalil Al-Amour, and moderated by Linda Ramsden. 2. UK’s involvement in the Arms Trade and our response – with Jeff Halper, and Ryvka Barnard of War on Want , and moderated by Colin Green. The day will come to a close with a summary, both of the afternoon's workshop focus groups, and of the day's content, and what we might be able to take away from such an inspiring, thought-provoking and stimulating event. We are helping to position ourselves as an organisation to become more active on these issues throughout the year, and we look forward to keeping you updated of our progress! ICAHD UK will also provide a stall with our new resources. And finally, any photographers, designers or film-makers out there, we need to hear from you! ... Thanks as ever for your ongoing support that enables us to continue the important work that we do in supporting ICAHD resisting house demolitions in Israel / Palestine, and raising awareness of this cause in the UK. From Linda and Ruby. Information for Members AGM documents, conference and dinner update Friday 29th May, 6pm - 9pm As many of you will know, our members' dinner is one of the highlights of our ICAHD UK networking calendar, and gives a real chance to meet like-minded people, catch up with other members, get to know new faces, and learn from what each of us have been doing for the last year in particular toward the campaign against house demolitions. Our tables are kept small and intimate, to allow for ease of conversation whilst we dine. From 6 pm: We will gather in the bar at The Wesley Hotel in the atrium space which will be reserved for us. There will be the chance to buy drinks and mingle before we are guided into the private room where dinner will be served. After our meal the programme is as follows: ICAHD UK’s Patron Prof Colin Green will be in conversation with Jeff Halper for us to hear a sneak preview of his new book ‘War Against the People: Israel, the Palestinians and Global Pacification’ that is due out in the autumn. This book investigates Israel's 'securocratic' war in the OPT, delving into the psychological process that is a subliminal form of warfare and fear-mongering, as well as the very tangible militarised systems that surround those particularly in Israel / Palestine, but ultimately, us all. Agenda for 2015 AGM (https://gallery.mailchimp.com/a3728e1a8014d53820403ca12/files/ICAHD_UK_Agenda_AGM2015.docx) Conference Saturday 30th May, 11.15am - 5.15pm The essence of Israel’s conflict with the Palestinians is displacement. For the past century Zionism has worked diligently and systematically to turn Palestine into the Land of Israel. On the way it has aspired to appropriate all the country’s land and resources and, ultimately, to drive the remaining Palestinians out, or at least to confine them to tiny enclaves. This project, officially called “judaization,” is today entering its final phase, and nothing demonstrates it more graphically than Israel’s policy of house demolitions.
