ICAHD UK important news of AGM and EGM This email contains important news regarding our upcoming AGM and EGM... - The flyer for our conference and AGM . We write now to give you official notification of ICAHD UK’s AGM on Saturday, 28th May, 10am – 11.30pm, which will be followed by our annual conference (downloadable flyer attached here ). We hope you, like us, are looking forward to seeing old friends, meeting new faces, evaluating our progress through 2015 and strategizing for our year ahead. As is our custom, you will be sent the standard reports in advance of the AGM to help you prepare for the meeting. At this time we invite members who would like to stand for election to our executive committee to submit their name with accompanying 250-word blurb on their reason for standing for election and this must be accompanied by endorsement from two current ICAHD UK members. If you feel you could help contribute to our Executive Committee in 2016/17 as we progress our campaign to end house demolitions - and ultimately the Occupation – please contact us. The deadline for submission is Thursday, 5th May. We also give notice that the AGM will be immediately followed by an Emergency General Meeting (EGM) to afford us the opportunity to tell you about significant developments within ICAHD and ICAHD UK. This will be a time for information and discussion only, and we do not intend to make any major decisions in this limited timeframe, but this important consultation will provide the chance for members to share their views and inform where we go next. If necessary we will book in a separate date following on from this to meet again. In the last year Jeff Halper has stepped down from his role as ICAHD’s Director and very recently the Israeli Charity Commission closed ICAHD because it is impossible to meet its bureaucratic requirements. Additionally, Salim Shawamreh has sold Beit Arabiya, formerly used as ICAHD’s peace centre and base for international delegations and rebuilding camps. ICAHD is proceeding as a grassroots organisation; Jeff remains involved in ICAHD and ICAHD’s alternative tour programme, and other activities on the ground continue. You may have read in the newsletter that this year so far more than 600 people have been briefed during political tours by the small ICAHD team. Here in the UK Linda is stepping aside to concentrate on expanding the study tour programme, writing and other key activities that will feed into ICAHD UK, thus to compensate for that we need to grow our team to support this. Ninety minutes have been set aside for the AGM and EGM. Key issues will be presented and we look forward to a healthy discussion. With Israel’s record number of demolitions this year, especially in the West Bank, we believe there is urgent need for ICAHD UK to step up its campaign against demolitions and displacements, and we hope you will stand alongside us. Our usual tradition of gathering together the evening before the conference for a networking dinner is not going ahead this year due to limited capacity and funds. However we are excited to announce that we are working on another members’ networking event and training session for later in the autumn to replace this. More news on this members-only event will follow, and the full details and booking forms will be released at our conference. Needless to say, we would not be able to achieve the significant progress we have made over the last year had it not been for such a strong and dedicated group of supporters in the UK. Thank you.
