The Horrors of Gaza – webinar; Parliamentary debate on I/P The emotional outrage is unprecedented. We must continue to pressurize the British government to call for a permanent ceasefire now. Join the National March for Palestine in London on Saturday. To march with the ICAHD UK flags, please assemble at noon in Old Jewry, a short street near Bank tube station which is the designated meeting point for the Jewish bloc. We will then move together to slot in with the march. Join Jeff Halper as we explore these questions. The discussion is timely precisely at this moment, as Israel believes the legitimacy of its violent repression of the Palestinians in the eyes of governments — “To Victory!” as the Israeli government and military leaders cry — will enable it to finally defeat the Palestinians’ struggle for freedom in its homeland. What alternative vision and political program is called for? Join us for what will be a challenging conversation. There is no advance registration for this webinar. One of the hosts for the ICAHD recommended study tours is amongst the 3670 Palestinians from the West Bank who has been detained by Israel since 7^th October. Anas Abu Srour, Executive Director of the Aida Youth Center in Aida Refugee Camp, Bethlehem, was arrested by Israeli authorities on Tuesday, 28^th November. Anas, 35, travelled in his vehicle from his home in Aida Camp to Ramallah to take an English-language exam. Following it, he messaged his wife to say he was on his way home, but he never arrived. Twenty-four hours later the Palestinian Authority was informed that Anas had been arrested and a week later, on 5^th December, Anas was sentenced to six months administrative detention. This is a common practice in Israeli military courts, which allows Israel to keep Palestinians in prison, without charges or a trial. Administrative detention can be extended indefinitely. To learn more about Anas and his story go to our website. We encourage you to please sign the petition demanding Anas' release which will be shared with relevant institutions and media outlets. November Demolition & Displacement Report Photo: Az Za'ayyem, Jerusalem 20 November 2023 We realize that most people’s attention is on the horrific events happening in Gaza where since 7^th October, 61% of homes and residential units have been destroyed. Of the 305,000 affected units, 52,000 are completely destroyed and 253,000 are partially damaged. We mourn all the destruction happening in Gaza, but we also realize that at the same time, Israeli authorities continue with their apartheid policies in East Jerusalem and the West Bank where Palestinians do not have access to equality in housing. * A four-story residential building, comprising six apartments was demolished by the Israeli Civil Administration in Az Za’ayyem, Jerusalem. As a result, a family of seven, including two children was displaced, and four other households were affected. The demolition was carried out without any prior notice, and all the family's belongings were buried under the rubble. * Personnel from the Jerusalem municipality along with Israeli forces demolished an under-construction house, in Silwan, East Jerusalem. As a result, a family of three, including one child was affected. Although the affected family informed the municipality that they would be willing to demolish their home themselves within days to avoid paying fines, the Israeli forces proceeded to demolish the house without prior notice being given to the family. The first petition , which has more than 149,000 signatures, states: “We want the UK to be neutral in the conflict between Israel and Palestine, and withdraw offers of support for Israel.” The second petition , which has more than 196,000 signatures, states: “The UK Government should urge the Israeli Government to stop the blockade of Food, Fuel and Electricity to the already impoverished city of Gaza.” The third petition , which has more than 249,000 signatures, states: “We want the Government to seek a ceasefire and also seek to address the root cause of the current conflict by promoting dialogue and advocating for the end of Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip.” The debates begin at 4.30 and can be viewed on the UK Parliament YouTube channel . Then respond to your MP about what is said. For more understanding about the necessity for a ceasefire, read this article by lawyer Gregory Khalil. More than 46,000 Palestinians have been injured but of the 35 hospitals in Gaza, only nine are barely functioning and disease is rapidly spreading which will result in even more deaths. In addition, 1.9 Gazans have been displaced and no safe places remain for civilians in Gaza. War crimes are being committed as we witness the utter destruction of the Gazan infrastructure which is all part of Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people. Webinar with Jeff Halper While our attention is properly focused on the transformative and tragic Hamas attack of October 7th and Israel’s ongoing retaliation, we must ask the question: Where is the transformation going? Will the US and Europe exploit the violence to impose a regime of Israeli apartheid on the Palestinians in the guise of a “two-state solution,” as Biden has threatened, or will civil society be able to use the moment to defeat apartheid and promote a genuine resolution that guarantees the rights of both Palestinians and Israelis? What would a genuine peace require and how might it look? Click on this zoom link at 7pm on the 13th. Sign Petition to Release Anas Abu Srour Photo: Anas Abu Srour - ICAHD Here are three examples of what happened to other Palestinians in November: * A house, built 13 years ago, was demolished by the Jerusalem municipality along with Israeli forces in Al ‘Isawiya, East Jerusalem. As a result, a family of six, including four children was displaced. Over the years, the family was forced to pay around 150,000 shekels (£32,233) to the Jerusalem municipality in fees. All the family's belongings were buried under the rubble.
